Seit inzwischen fast 30 Jahren ist Chris Brokaw so etwas wie ein geheimer Handschlag in Indie-Connaisseur-Kreisen. Egal ob einst als Mitglied von Codeine oder Come oder später als Solist und oder Kollborateur von Thurston Moore oder Evan Dando (um nur zwei zu nennen), hat der amerikanische Tausendsassa immer wieder neue Wege beschritten. Letztes Jahr wagte er sich mit dem hinreißenden Album "End Of The Night" sogar auf Jazz-Terrain vor.
Jetzt erscheint, exklusiv als Download via  Bandcamp eine Live-Aufnahme eben dieser Songs, eingespielt im vergangenen Jahr mit der End Of The Night-Band. Wer heute (20. März 2020) zuschlägt, sorgt ganz nebenbei noch dafür, dass das die Einnahme komplett an die Künstler geht, denn Bandcamp verzichtet als Unterstützungsmaßnahme in Coronavirus-Zeiten heute auf seinen Anteil. Für Brokaw eine nicht unwesentliche Hilfe, denn eigentlich hätte er genau jetzt auf Tournee in Italien sein sollen...
Er selbst sagt über die Veröffentlichung: "In October 2020 I did a 6 date tour of the west coast to promote my album 'End Of The Night'. I recruited three of the people who played on the album: Lori Goldston on cello, Luther Gray on drums and Greg Kelley on trumpet, and asked Dave Abramson to join on drums too (I'd asked both Luther and Dave if they could tour, figuring one would say no...they both said yes... I immediately thought: BOTH). The shows were a blast, I felt elated and so lucky to work with such a cool band. We had amazing people on the bills with us every night, the whole thing was momentous. 'End Of The Night' is in some ways about leaving the west and so returning and performing the album felt heady. I'm greatly indebted to the other 4 players for helping all this take form. // All songs are from 'EOTN' except 'Into The Woods' and 'The Appetites' which are from 'Gambler's Ecstasy' and 'Bathhouse' which is from 'Red Cities'.
